Amsterdam was booming! In order to build more and more ships the
Kadijks- and Eastern Islands were created. Here, the biggest and
most modern complex in Europe would arise, the VOC shipyard. The
Navy realized an impressive war fleet. And about another 200
smaller shipyards and related business filled the islands. The
windmills on top of the citywall-bastions were also in service
of the ships, they sawed the wood or bored wholes in the canons.
